When ever terrorists strike India the relations between Pakistan and India would be strained. This is due to the evidences provided by the intelligence authorities and the nabbed terrorists that these terrorists have links with Pakistan. But pakistan government denies the allegations every time. The fact is that these Islamic terrorists were trained by Pakistan's inter service intelligence authorities as confessed by one of the terrorists nabbed recently in Mumbai.

On November 26th two groups of terrorists caused wide spread devastation at about five locations in the financial capital of India. They targeted the highly crowded locations like the Mumbai railway station and three five star hotels. The affected people include citizens from various developed nations such as America, United kingdom, Germany, etc. This attack also lead to the loss of property of several crores of rupees.

According to some experts a small group of Islamic fundamentalists have been involved in this kind of extremist, militant. and terrorist activities throughout the world. Even Pakistan too faces this problem more frequently. These Islamic fundamentalists operate from different islamic countries by different names like lashkar e toiba, Jehadi, and several other islamic names. Their objective is to create commotion, kill people, etc. They also want to reduce the number of foreign tourists visiting India by showing to them through this kind of extremist acts that India is not safe. Their most important objective seems to be to prove that India is not a safe heaven for investments.

Due to such terrorists attacks the fundamental rights of citizens like right to freedom, right to speech, right to life, etc would be violated. The recent attacks in Mumbai also lead to the closure of Bombay stock exchange for a few days. According to some experts, the investments too would be affected in the long run. Many hotels lost a considerable amount of their customers due to cancellation of trips to Mumbai thus tourism too would be affected leading to the decrease in the revenues to the government and to corporate hotels. Many schools, colleges and other organisations were closed for some days. Thus the recent terror attacks disrupted normal life for several days in Mumbai. Infact, the whole country was in a state of shock as these attacks resembled 9/11 attacks in the USA.

Unfortunately, India does not have proper crisis management infrastructure. It took nearly nine and half hours for the national security guards officials to reach the affected spots to control grenade, riffle attacks. Due to lack of proper combating equipment three indian police service officers, two major generals of army besides many other security personnel lost their lives while fighting with the terrorists in the recent Mumbai attack. There are also criticisms against intelligence authorities of India for neglecting warnings from the terrorist groups. Failure of coast guards, naval intelligence, lack of political will to solve this menace, etc are cited as the most important reasons for the recent Mumbai attack.

This attack has opened the eyes of Indian government. The prime minister of India convened an all party meeting after the attack to discuss the steps to be taken to prevent such attacks in future, several politicians and officials were asked to quit, government decided to open four new security guard hubs in metropolitan cities of India, planning to start a new agency to tackle terrorism namely the federal investigation agency, security along the coastal regions of India was beefed up, upgradation of police skills and improving the crisis management infrastructure were the other major steps taken by the central government in the after math of Mumbai attacks.

It is astonishing to note that a group of terrorists with a huge cache of arms and ammunition travelled in the arabian ocean for several days but was not caught by any security officials. Besides this they could easily enter with grenades, guns, etc into five star hotels in Mumbai, India's commercial capital. India has third largest scientific man power in the world which should be utilised effectively to prevent the recurrence of such attacks. All the vital locations should have closed circuit televisions and some additional personnel should be recruited to monitor the suspicious movements both offshore and on shore.
